Kindergarten News- 2/2/12

Well, the groundhog saw its shadow so it looks like a few more weeks of winter.  The class is moving right along.  We are all in small reading groups and doing very well.  We are working on syllables and blends as we continue to put sounds together to make words.  In math, we are adding, graphing, measuring, and telling time.  Soon we will be starting subtraction.  Our Flat Stanley’s are slowly coming home from their adventures.  We will have a big display at our Social Studies Fair in March. The children get very excited to see where he has traveled.

The 100th day of school is soon approaching.  If there are no cancellations, we will celebrate the 100th day on Wednesday, February 8th.  This day will be filled with many fun activities.  I would like each child to bring in 100 items from home to help out with some of the counting lessons.  The items must be able to fit in their backpack.  Here are some ideas- pennies, toothpicks, cereal, paperclips, legos…. be creative.

Valentine’s Day is Tuesday, February 14th.  Our class wants to have an Ice Cream Sundae Party.  We will put a sign up sheet on the bulletin board for help with the supplies.  We would also ask that your child share a valentine with each of their friends.  There is a list of the student’s names in their folder.

The class is getting really low on our reward candy and prizes and items for our estimation station.  If you would like to donate any of these items to our class, we would really appreciate.  Also, many of us could use a new box of crayons.  Take a look in your child’s tote to see what they need replenished.

As you know, the 2nd term report card went home.  Please make sure to sign and send it back to school.  If for any reason you would like to have a parent/teacher conference, please let me know.  I would be happy to meet with you anytime.  Once again, thank you for everything you do!
